BQS Pillow fight - Done!

Thank you all so much for your opinions on my last post, it really helped to firm up what I was thinking. Special thanks to Dianne who said "First of all, I read your heading as Onions Please. Why would she want onions, I thought." which actually made me laugh out loud, and continues to make me laugh out loud every time I look at my blog!! I can't read it any other way now...

So I've finished the pillow, I went with just a couple more lines of perle in the end because as most of you said, less is definitely more.

I gave Miss Brother a fairly stern talking too, and even managed to finish up the FMQ in the centre. Not without the odd whine and moan from her though, although thankfully nothing quite as bad as the bobbin munching incident of Thursday evening.

The back is an envelope enclosure... bit of a cop out I know, but I haven't sewn a zip since my A Level Textile design course, and didn't want to ruin anything.

The edges of the envelope are bound in the same Heirloom print as the binding, which I think is a nice little unifying feature... (get me with my techy words...!)

Couldn't decide what to do for the label, I knew I wanted to tie in a little bit of hand stitching to the back but didn't want to hand stitch the whole thing (the skillz... I don't haz them). So I christened my brand new alphabet stamps! It was time consuming because each letter is a stamp and of course I had to do the whole thing twice just to practice... but worth it I think. I like the vintage look, and even the "screw ups" (the bits where the side of the stamp has printed) add to the overall look I think. I had done a bit of research into stamping on fabric and it seemed that Versacraft ink was the popular choice, so I used that. I set it with a hot iron, so hopefully it will be washable. Although with all that purple and white I would be hesitant to wash this thing anyway...

I'm pretty confident that my partner will like the pillow. It might be a little more bright and zany than she is used to, but that's half the fun of a swap I think. Making something in your own personal style, inspired by their likes. I hope she likes it anyway... Just a goody or something to make now and I am done-diddly-done.

Oh, and I thought I would share the out-takes from my little photoshoot. Luna cat getting all up in ma grill.

She's a mad one that Luna. She's also a polydactyl (6 toes on each paw). That's why she looks like she's wearing kitty-mittens. Cute no?

Anyway, must away. There's a banana cake in the oven that smells about ready, then I'm heading to Mom's for brekkers and knitting. Perfect Sunday plans me thinks!

  2. Your pillow came out wonderful!! And the back is gorgeous, too! I've been toying with the idea of getting alphabet stamps, but didn't know which kind of ink to use for fabric-- so thanks for the info. The label looks cute. Also, love the out-take photos with Luna-- just precious! I've never heard of polydactyls before-- learned something new today from you. Hope you're having a good time with your mom today!

  3. Love the colours in your cushion (sorry but I can`t call it a pillow) and I don`t think the envelope closure is a cop out at all...I actually prefer it as long as it`s nice and deep and doesn`t gape and clearly yours doesn`t. Your partner will love it. Stamps are great too - that`s something I have to get on to - labels. Have a great Sunday - brekkers with mum sounds perfect.

  7. Great finish there - we will all be hoping it lands in our postbox!

Your cat is so cute - mine seems more of a fluffy couch potato - or should that be bed potato!? If she's not careful she could be mistaken for a cushion!
