Last night I needed a quick project, before I start my Hopscotch quilt. I also needed to make 3 Pay-It-Forward gifts before the year is out and the time does tend to sneak up on me these days. Best get it out the way before I forget, I thought.
Enter Kim's brilliant tutorial and Ta-dah!
Aren't they cute?
The tutorial was easy as pie to follow, and I whipped these 3 up in about an hour and a half. Perfect to satisfy the fickle quilter within. I did have some serious issues with my machine though... I can see why people sew these by hand.
When you are stitching down the curves, you are sewing through 10+ layers of fabric. Normally my machine is a trooper, but she was bitching and moaning something rotten last night... skipping stitches all over the place! The green one didn't go so well at all actually... I think I'll re-do it, or stitch it by hand.
So, people that entered my PIF... Di, Sadie and Catherine,
Do you have a preference on colour?

They are lovely, I was just going to leap up to the machine and make one when I read on and read the problems you had sewing through 10 layers, I know my machine would just not cope, She wouldn't just bitch and moan, she'd walk out!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! The blue one is my favourite, but I would be super happy with any of them to be honest :-)
ReplyDeleteAlso laughing at Judi's comment above! My machine would walk out too I think!
Those are absolutely precious... I seriously love them. My machine and I had a talk and quite frankly, she's a bit of a bully. I think secretly she works for the FBI in interrogations but she's not giving that up either.
ReplyDeleteThey look fab - my machine will sew over anything providing I have the right needle in and it can fit under the presser foot.
ReplyDeletethey are great... have you tried it with the walking foot on... just a thought ,as it is better at multiple or "puffy" layers xx
ReplyDeleteOh these are so cute! Lovely pifs! Jxo
ReplyDeleteI would feel very lucky to have any of them. They are all lovely!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely!!
ReplyDeleteTremendous effort!
ReplyDeletethey all look gorgeous, recognise some of those fabrics! I do love cathedral windows must have a go sometime soon, although 10 layers of fabric sounds a bit scary.
ReplyDeleteThese turned out so cute. I have that tutorial on my list. I really need to make one.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous. So popping over to grab the tutorial =D!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the green one! =D
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBet your recipients are going to have trouble choosing!
Veeeeery cute Laura! Your PIF people will be very happy with these!
ReplyDeletemaybe instead of trying a straight stitch, try an edge stitch where it only has to go through the very edge of the material to hold it down? Like a blanket stitch, applique stitch, etc.
ReplyDeleteI was going to leave a smutty remark about your header, but I am behaving ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove all three! I am off to check out the tute, because I clearly don't have enough WIPS on the go!
Loved them so much I pinned them ! :)
ReplyDeleteWell I was going to behave...
ReplyDeleteI am not suprised your machine was bitching and moaning if it was only a little one ;-)
So pretty LJ - I `m not in the PIF but I would choose the green in an instant!
ReplyDeleteoh, so adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are really lovely and I am really excited! As for colours, well that would be plain picky, I will be happy to have a surprise. Thanks L-J. Di xo
ReplyDeleteAll very cute and thank goodness for spam filters!
ReplyDeleteThey are all fantastic, gonna have to pin that tute!
ReplyDeleteOh My! They are sooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteThey're fab! I gave my mum one for Christmas and she won't use it as she's 'searching for the perfect pins' to put in it. Good job she can't see these cute pins you're including!
ReplyDeleteI love them. They are cuter than cute! {one time it is a good thing to have a "little prick" Ha!}.
ReplyDeleteDanette
Those are seriously cute pinnies and I am going to check out that tutorial
ReplyDeleteThey turned out to be so cute! I love the little pins you have.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! Hope you gave your machine a hug afterwards for not throwing a complete wobbly and spitting out parts.
ReplyDeleteThose are adorable and I love the birdie pins. I think my machine would start spitting at me if I tried to sew through that many layers!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! I don't need another pin cushion..but these are so cute I just might have to give in. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to Kim's tutorial and for the inspiration! I made one today and it came out so cute! http://so-sue.blogspot.com/2012/03/cathedral-window.html
