As you all know, Lynne is doing her thing for Siblings Together. The response from the quilting community has been incredible, and heartwarming, and just a little bit overwhelming.
We decided it would be a good idea to create a quilt label for the backs of all these quilts, and I quickly mocked up this design:
I left the space on the right blank, so that the siblings could grab a sharpie and write each other a little message; so that they really could take a bit of their brother or sister home with them. The little ones could maybe even draw around their hand print, or something...
We had to change the design in the end, because the Siblings Together Logo was not printing to full resolution, so here is the final draft, which Lynne designed:
Since I had recently received my new quilt labels, which I had printed at Spoonflower, and got THE BEST SERVICE!... I thought they would be the best place to start. So I sent them an email asking if they would like to contribute to the cause.
Fast forward to today, and I received one of the most exciting emails of my life (yes, I keep a list...).
Darci, of Spoonflower, has not just agreed to donate the 2 yards of printed labels I asked for, but also offered us OUR PICK of fat quarters from the Spoonflower store to make another quilt!! How amazingly generous is that? I practically fell off my chair when I read that email.
So. What does this mean for you?
Once the labels arrive, I will cut them up and happily post one to anyone who has made, or would like to make, a quilt for Siblings Together. Anyone who has already mailed their quilts, never fear! The wonderful ladies of the London Modern Quilt Guild have offered to go to the Siblings Together HQ and stitch their little hearts out, affixing a label to the quilts that are there.
There also may or may not be a giveaway, soon, of some Spoonflower original FQ's, with the only caveat being that you have to make a quilt for Siblings Together.
Aren't people great?!
Those 3 words have been going round and round in my head all morning.
Aren't people great?!

Aren't people great indeed. Well done to you for getting things rolling with Spoonflower. I can't wait to hear how many quilts get made for Siblings in the final tally for this summer. We can always make more next summer.

ReplyDeleteYou are so right. This whole project has made my heart squish. Everyone is so generous in so many different ways. I wish I could take part but I have no fabric stash to speak of and I can't make a quilt and I have no money. I hate that I can't join in, except to cheer from the side lines. What you are doing is amazing and congratulations on getting the contribution from Spoonflower.

ReplyDeleteYay for Darci and Spoonflower! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to mention about sharpies -- I don't have very much experience with them on fabric, but once my sister drew a cute picture with colored sharpies on a little t-shirt for my (then) baby son. He drooled, and the ink ran all over (his chest was multicolored afterwards, haha). :}
That is amazing! Great job :)
