I've decided to make a full size swoon quilt. As a Christmas present. For this Christmas. I'm gonna need some serious cheering on from the sidelines if I'm gonna get it finished! I'm a bit worried actually.... I am, at heart, a bit of a flake when it comes to quilts. I get bored easily. <--- Secret quilter confession right there.
I've only ever made mini swoon blocks like this:
So when I made a big one as a practice for Susan last weekend... I was a bit shocked. There are big aren't they?!
But as Katy so rightly said the other day, its only 9 blocks. If I do one a day for the next week or so, it will be done. (One a day is not gonna happen... just so you know). But it shouldn't take too long. Right?....!
And oh yes.... I'm using Field Study. Because it's pretty.

You can do it! Go for it. I did a Swoon quilt for a challenge, it goes together quickly.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great goal to have and it seems possible. Stitch, baby! Stitch!
ReplyDelete*waves pom poms*
ReplyDeleteYes they are big! I'll try to cheer you on by matching your makes as I think I only have 2 blocks made and now it sits. So go Laull, and I.l try and go with you ! We should aim to have the top pieced for the Brit Bee get together!
ReplyDeleteEeeeek! You just subtly slipped my bee block in there. I love, love, love it! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou will have it done, no problem and what a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteI love this block/quilt, but have way too many WIP and ideas to contemplate making one at the moment - I'm sure you will do it and you are so, so very right about the 1 block/day plan - it won't happen - I said the same thing to myself about my Kona blocks and am constantly being distracted - maybe by the middle of next month ;o)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry we will stalk and cheer you on ....
You can do it, you can do it! It's really pretty quick to make, I'm contemplating another one for Christmas too :)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it, but it will be a race to the finish and I will be one of your cheerleaders.
ReplyDeleteWow..! You've done it now.... No going back... Anyway - those big blocks are easier than the mini's I think... This is on my 'to do' list but I'm finishing Big Jack at the moment... But like the others ... I will be cheering from the sidelines.. Love the fabrics too.. That's the biggest decision made.. All a breeze from now on..
ReplyDeleteOh those fabrics are yummy! I've every confidence in you. If you're behind when you meet up with the Brit bee-ers give them all a block to do! Jxo
ReplyDeleteWow, good luck with that! They are enormous though, so hopefully it won't be too painful
ReplyDeletegood luck, you can do it and think how amazing it will look when its done.
ReplyDeleteI want to start a swoon for my own bedroom ... but have way too many projects for other people already underway. Can't wait to see yours progress - it'll be a stunner in Field Study!
ReplyDeleteYou can totally do it. Two blocks a week and you could be done by Thanksgiving. Your practice one looks awesome! I'm sure the quilt will be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteGo Laura!!!!! Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it. Cut all the blocks first and place each one in a ziploc bag. Every day schedule "Swoon" time and grab a bag. This is how I get all my must finish projects done! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNine blocks? Of course you can do it. If you post your progress then we will all cheer you on from the sidelines. Di x
ReplyDeleteThe cutting does seem to take a long time - I cut all of my background fabric in one hit and am now trying to cut two swoon blocks at a time as the sewing is more fun. The only other thing is, you need a really good contrast in your two fabrics to make your block sing (unless the subtle look is your plan). I am sure your quilt will be fabulous - can't wait to see it and cheering you on for a speedy finish (er, unlike mine...)
ReplyDeleteI am sending Cheering to you. I still need to finish mine so I hope one of us can actually finish ours this year.
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!!! If you need a hand though I'll piece a block for you...
ReplyDeleteit's on my list, I want to do a giant single block swoon 50x50, love your fabrics and will be keeping a close eye on progress, its a great bee block isn't it :)
ReplyDeleteOne day I wil, one day!
ReplyDeleteEven if you only made one a week, you'd still have plenty of time to finish it !! You can do this !
ReplyDeleteA Field Study swoon will be amazing - of course you run the risk that you might not be able to give it away!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that one!
ReplyDelete9 weeks til Christmas do 1 a week and then frantically quilt and bind it a couple of days before? That would be what I'd do anyway! Will be gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteLove the block you did for Susan
Oh it will be fab!!
ReplyDeleteOooh that will be gorgeous! It might motivate me to finally finish mine - five down, four to go...
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to see these blocks come together! It was easier for me to match up all my prints and cut all the blocks out ahead of time - then i could just lay out a block and sew. Definitely label the pieces and store in ziplocs - have fun!
ReplyDeletethat's a lot of work before christmas good luck
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances?! I started cutting for my long planned swoon last night, I haven't started piecing yet so you are ahead so far- will post some pics tomorrow I I get my first block done :)
ReplyDeleteI made a swoon earlier this year and found that cutting for one block and sewing the HSTs was one night's work. the next night I found triming the HSTs and sewing the rest of the block together was doable. Figure 2 nights for each block and you'll be done. If you work a little faster at the end when you have the rhythm down, you can get it done in 2 weeks.
