In the absence of any sewing of any kind, there is of course, always time to play with fabric!
I appear to have completely lost my sewing mojo. No particular reason I guess, I'm just busy doing other things, seeing people, going out and about. You know, the usual.
I did have a lot of fun pairing up these prints with my Sew Solid Crew Stash bundle this month. I can't wait to make some more stars for my Stellar quilt (which is a free download, from SimplySolids.co.uk - check the left hand sidebar).
And I got my favourite Stash Stack bundle yet from Brenda - Pink Castle Fabrics. Good purples! Squeee!
Just FYI - There is a big 25% sale at Pink Castle Fabrics (with code BUNDLE25) that ENDS TODAY! Also, international shipping goes up today, so HURRY HURRY HURRY!
I have also fallen back in love with my first craft - knitting. (This may be why I'm not sewing so much... I cast-on on Saturday. Yep. Addicted much?). I've been wanting to knit a pair of socks for ages, but was a bit scared about the tiny tiny needles and super fine yarn.
So I set myself a challenge to learn how to do it, and I think I'm doing pretty good! These are my practice pair (which I'm hoping will be good enough to gift anyway), before I knit a pair as a commission for a Emily.
This weekend I taught myself Judy's magic cast-on for toe up socks and the magic loop method of knitting two socks at once. Oh, and how to rescue my stitches when I accidentally dropped one about 15 rows back. That was a fun hour... not!
The yarn I'm using is Dream in Colour Classy (colourway Beach Fog) which on Ravelry is classed as a worsted weight yarn, and I admit knitting it to the gauge specified in the book does feel a little weird and tight, but I'm just gonna roll with it and see how I go. I'm trusting the book!
I hope it turns out okay because I have 2 more skeins, in Wisterious (the pinky purple above) and Peacock Shadow (that swoon worthy navy/black/blue) just waiting to be knit up into more socks!

Uh oh the tug of war between fabric and yarn is a tough one!
ReplyDeleteI always thought life was too short to knit your own socks, but I'm often wrong! Hope your sewing mojo finds it's way back to you xx
Gorgeous yarn and pattern! I've been meaning to learn how to knit socks for a while now but not got round to it...this might just make me move it up my 'want to do' list!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with Peacock Shadow. What a stunning shade of yarn!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like the feeling of hand knit socks on tootsies! Jxo
ReplyDeleteThose socks are looking awesome! I think I may have taken your sewing mojo, as my knitting/crochet mojo has completely disappeared (and I only have 3 rows of crochet left to finish a blanket....gah!) Sx
ReplyDeleteDespite its stupid name, I use the magic loop method for all knitting in the round now, socks, hats, sweaters, sleeves, etc. It is far easier than getting pointed by the double points all the time. Your socks are lovely, how do they fit?
ReplyDeleteI have been teasing myself with learning toe up socks - I have done top down and really disliked the whole heel gusset situation. Let me know how these go - they look fabulous so far!
ReplyDeleteLook at you! I love all of your yarn that you've chosen! Keep it up!
ReplyDeletemy friend Helen is a sock genius. If you have any questions, I am sure she would be happy to help. http://www.runquiltknitwrite.com/
ReplyDeleteBut, it looks like you are doing a great job.
Oh your tootsie should be super toasty soon! Love that navy yarn, the peacock one, such beeeeautiful colours.
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric pull for the stars! As a non knitter, oh my, love those socks! Really, I love them!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics in the first picture! (Well I love them all, but those make my toes curl)
ReplyDeleteLovely fabrics - and socks! I'm knitting socks on the "magic loop" method but want to learn how to knit two at a time magic loop (oh and toe up too to avoid those disappointing fit failures - don't want much do I?). Can I ask which book you used please? I've been eyeing up Wendy Johnson's books, but really want to make sure I can knit two at a time too (To try and avoid the dreaded second sock syndrome).
ReplyDeleteYour sewing mojo may be taking a bit of a break, but the creative force is still strong.:-)
Your purples are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOoh, love the funky sock yarn!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the purple stash stack the best? My favourite so far. Loving the Dream in Colour shades you have there!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that last yarn is gorgeous. The joys of knitted socks. I haven't tried them with worsted, just fingering, but I love the pairs I've made so far. They're so comfy and very warm - a good thing if, like me, you have crap circulation. The ones you've started are looking good. If you want to be corrupted with more patterns and excellent sock yarn, let me know :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you've got some gems there. It's so hard to find good purples, and you've done so. I love the colours on the right side of the fan. And I think I'm in love with Peacock Shadow!
ReplyDeleteI love your yarns. This is yarn porn. Hmmm. That so doesn't sound right.
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I could knit. But I can't and that's that. I have tried and tried but me and knitting are not friends :-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love sock knitting! Quick gratification. I am usually too lazy to stay away from boring plain socks, but those look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI also want to know the name of the book!
ReplyDeleteCathy - The book is "Socks from the Toe up" by Wendy Johnson.
DeleteThanks!
DeleteI'm only on my second pair ever, both are top down. Is toe up easier? Better? Quicker?
