Yey, Socks!

My first pair of toe up socks are finished and blocked! Yey!

Van Dyke Socks ♥♥♥

I couldn't be more pleased with myself right now. I loved knitting these socks. Okay, it's a super simple pattern, but I needed that for a first go.

Wow, its hard to photograph your own feet. Also - Hey there pale legs ;-)

Van Dyke Socks ♥♥♥

They literally flew off my needles because of the thicker yarn, but as I mentioned before, it was a slightly uncomfortable knit. I've just cast on for another pair in a much lighter weight yarn and so far it is feeling much better.

I ran out out yarn, like literally had a couple of inches left, else I would have added more ribbing on the cuff. Next time I want to add a bunch more; I get the feeling these are going to be a bit slouchy!

Now, I was planning on gifting these to a friend, but it just so happens that they fit me PERFECTLY. What are the chances?!  (Insert evil laugh here) I suppose I'll have to make her another pair!

  2. They look fabulous. Nice yarn too. Now you have started knitting socks, there will be no stopping you until you have a drawer full of pairs to take you through the cold months. It's hard to wear shop bought socks once you have worn hand knitted.

Oh and those legs are nothing compared to how white mine are. And when I say white I mean WHITE!

  12. Gorgeous socks, I've added the book to my wishlist! I think I'd need a skein and a half of yarn, though as I like a long sock ;o)
P.S. If you think those legs are pale you should see mine...they glow in the dark!

  14. In awe of your skill but not sure I get the knitted sock thing - are they not too thick and scratchy to wear with shoes/boots??

  15. Fabulous socks-love the yarn. Di and I have been drooling over yarn in Liberty and John lewis today (I may have made a small purchase!)

  16. White legs are far more acceptable than the gorilla hair variety I am currently sporting (in the name of warmth of course you understand!) which I need to address before my spa day next week!

  17. Cool! Of course having not got all that ribbing done that you wanted, you'll need to spare your friend the pain of slouchy socks and just keep them yourself...

  18. What did you think of doing the heel on the toe up socks? Was it easier than when you do a cuff down? They came out super cute - and how very lucky for you that they fit you perfectly.

  19. Well, they are quite fabulous. Evil laughter is okay!

And you are not alone with you pale legs. Mine are on the pasty side o' pale!

By the way, I've been covering your awesome quilt labels for forever. You wouldn't be able selling me a copy so I can try to be as cool, would you? I've looked and looked and yours are still the best I've seen.
